Hints for Raising Babies to Children

Babies are wonderful, full of adventures and many first. Some are quite comically where others are enduring and some worrisome. Here are a few hints that will help you through just a few of the many first your baby will go through from infant to toddler.

Your baby begins its life in a baby bed. When it comes time for traveling to visit grandma or others who may not necessarily have a baby bed handy you will have to come up with an alternative sleeping arrangement for your bundle of joy. You can always put them in bed with you, but if you already have them in a solid habit of sleeping on their own, you don’t want a trip away from home to blow that for you. Instead, if you are traveling with a small baby and do not want to haul the baby bed with you simply haul a small inflatable pool with you. Blow it up when it comes to beddy bye time and cover it with a sheet. Make sure to secure the sheet well under the blow up pool. Bring along your baby’s blankets it normally would sleep with at home and you are good to go.

When it comes to comical first, here is a couple safety tips to prevent a couple that may be comical well after the fact but can be scary or worrisome at first. Adults are even non-observant at times when walking and have been known to walk into a glass door a time or two in their life. For little ones who have just discovered they can stand on two feet and move, glass doors can be a quick roadblock in their path – kind of like a bird and a clean window. Do your little one favor and prevent a few goose eggs on their noggin by placing a piece of colored tape at their eye level on any glass doors in your home. This will alert them that the door is shut.

Those adventurous little toddlers love to get into mischief and expand their perimeter to do so. If they see a door they can get through, they will, and if that door happens to be one that leads to the great outdoors, this can be quite worrisome when you have a toddler missing in action due to a slightly jarred door. To keep you on the alert to your wandering toddler, place a bell on all doors that lead to the great outdoors. If the bell is low enough for them to hit to make it ring, but not to actually hold or touch fully, you can bet they will ring the bell out of curiosity even before heading out. This will put you on the alert that you may soon have a run away toddler!

Along with a growing exploring baby comes the time when you graduate your baby from a baby crib to a bed. Again, parental worrisome can come into play. As a parent, you may experience sleepless nights worrying about your little one falling out of the bed in the middle of the night. A toddler may worry about falling out of the bed. To stop the worry for everyone involved and to get a good night sleep, take the crib mattress and place it on the floor along side the child’s bed. That way if he/se does fall out of the bed it is met with a soft and safe landing.

Your toddler will become quite creative when they begin to learn about paint. To keep your kitchen table paint free, messy spill free and without wet rings, get some large sponges from any dollar store. Cut out a circle in the center the size of the container being used to house the water or paint and slip the containers into the hole. This works well for glue too and saves you and your table from worry and excessive cleaning.

If you have any tips to help keep ones baby or toddler safe during their unrestraint adventurous years, leave your tips in the comments. One can never have enough tricks up their sleeve when it comes to child rearing!

A Mother’s Day Tribute to all Wonderful Mothers.

A Child's Angel

Once upon a time, there was a child ready to be born.

He asked God:

"They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow but how am I going
to live there being so small and helpless?"

God: "Among the many angels, I chose one especially for you. She will
be waiting for you and will take care of you."

Child: "But tell me, here in Heaven, I don't do anything else but sing
and smile, and that's enough for me to be happy. Will I be happy
there?"

God: "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you every
day.
You will feel your angel's love and be happy."

Child: "How am I going to be able to understand when people talk to
me if I don't know the language that men talk?"

God: "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you
will ever hear.
With much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak."

Child: "And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"

God: "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray."

Child: "I've heard that on earth there are bad men. Who will protect me?"

God: "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking her own life."

Child: "But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."

God: "Your angel will always talk to you about me and will teach you the way to come back to me, even though I will always be next to you."

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from earth
could already be heard.
The child, in a hurry, asked softly:

"Oh God, if I am about to leave now, please tell me my angel's name."

God: "Your angel's name is of no importance.
You will call your angel ... Mommy."

Erma Bombeck

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.

Washington Irving (1783-1859)

TO MY MOTHER

Because I feel that in the heavens above
The angels, whispering one to another,
Can find among their burning terms of love,
None so devotional as that of "Mother,"
Therefore by that dear name I have long called you,
You who are more than mother unto me,
And filled my heart of hearts, where death installed you,
In setting my Virginia's spirit free.
My mother -- my own mother, who died early,
Was but the mother of myself; but you
Are the mother to the one I loved so dearly,
And thus are dearer than the mother I knew
But that infinity with which my wife
Was dearer to my soul that its soul-life.

Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849)
