Arranging your Bedroom Furniture Tips

Have you ever had a bedroom to where there was only one way you could arrange it because it was so small or oddly shaped? I had both dilemmas in one year and since those days have made a conscious choice never to put myself in that position again. I can’t even count how many times I stubbed toes on my bed, or bruised my leg trying to squeeze between the wall and the bed to make it or to simply escape out of the room. The room was no way any shape or form a place I wanted to spend in quality time. Sometimes, that the card we are thrown and there is not much we can do about it but make it work but when you do have room to arrange a bedroom suite the way you like, here are some tips to help you get the most of your space.

If you have a spacious room and want to give it a dramatic look you can angle out your focal piece in a corner. If your room has a lot of windows or extra doors, this is a good way to get around blocking off summer air flow from the windows as well as provide a central focus when arranging other pieces around it. Most bedrooms focal point is the bed itself unless your room comes with a fireplace, then that would be your focal point in which you would arrange your bedroom around.

Whatever the focal point is of the bedroom, use area rugs and/or side tables as accents. If your bed is the focal point, placing an area rug at the foot of the bed and two side tables gives the area a cozy comfortable aire. Also, if the bed is the focal point, make sure it pops out at the eye. You can do this by positioning a trunk or a sitting bench at the foot of the bed and by having large accent pillows.

If bedroom size allots, you can balance a bed off by adding a seating area opposite of where the bed lies. Make sure to follow the rule of thumbs mentioned in “Arranging Living Room Furniture Tips” on spacing and table availability. And by all means make sure there is ample room to move freely around the bed and other furniture in your bedroom. My toes can attest to the value in that tip!

Arranging your Multipurpose Room Furniture Tips

When you are lucky enough to have both a living room and a multipurpose room that you can use for entertaining, it can make life a bit easier in arranging furniture. For one thing, you can use your living room for relaxing none media entertain or just taking in a good book. You can use the multipurpose room for entertaining electronic or television wise, or use it for a dinning room especially if your kitchen isn’t designed to allow for a dinning section.

If you are first moving into a home that has a multipurpose room, you will first need to decide what its function is to be. You may decide to use the room for more than one purpose if the room is big enough such as a dinning room and an office desk area for dealing with bills and whatnot. If you are one of those that just can’t miss a certain television program, you may combine a dinning area with an entertainment area. Once that is decided, you can begin to decorate and arrange your furniture specific for the room.

When you begin arranging a multipurpose room, give each area you intend to create an dominate feature. Say it will be a dinning room/office. The dinning room’s main feature could be a hutch or it may be your dinning room table. The office section would more than likely be your desk. Place the dominate features at opposite sides of the room to create a balance. Sketch a basic diagram of the room and where you intend to place furniture first to save you a lot of moving labor. This will also give you a feel for the balance of the room. Once you are okay with it you can start placing furniture. If you find as you go that something doesn’t feel right, play around with the space some more. You may find, due to the dimensions of the room, that striking a equal balance between two themes may be impossible, such as an entertainment area and a dinning area. These two are fairly big arrangement groups and can take up quite a bit of space. You may have to combine the two rather than having two separate areas in one room.

Use furniture to make a natural divide between the two living areas by using the back of a sofa facing the backs of the dinning table chairs, or the back of an office chair to the back of the sofa, etc. You can also use room dividers to create the same effect such as folding screens. Throw rugs also help to create division

Create balance by using two or more smaller items against one large item. So say you are creating and office/dinning room multipurpose room. Since the desk and office chair is small compared to the dinning room table and chairs and a possible hutch, maybe add a filing cabinet or easy chair to the mix to create more balance.

Make sure that both areas have a nice flow for traffic allowing for at least three feet of space between each area and if one area is a dinning room area, at least 3 feet of space behind sitting area for comfortable seating as well as ease moving from seating and around others still sitting.

Arranging your Living Room Furniture Tips

Especially if your space is limited, the arrangement of any room is critical. When it comes to arranging your living room furniture, you want to make sure it has a nice flow, has ease of interacting, and comfortable seating for all to enjoy an entertainment center without breaking their neck.

The best way to start arranging your living room furniture is to start with a focal point. A focal point is the anchor of the room and should be on a wall or flush with a wall. It can be a fireplace, an entertainment center, window, or even a picture. You living room furniture will be placed strategically in front of your focal point.

Depending on the size of your room will determine just how much furniture the room can hold comfortable and elegantly. It will also determine the spacing between living room furniture pieces. Chairs should not be any further than 8 feet apart. Any further makes it impossible to have intimate conversation.

A table should be within reach of every seating piece and if possible, some form of lighting. When using a coffee table to provide seating table space, make sure there is ample legroom between seat and table. A good rule of thumb is leave at least 14 to 18 inches from seating to table.

Side tables are a great way to provide table space without having to use legroom. Make sure that the table is as tall as the arm of the seating furniture that they will be set by. Make sure there is ample room for traffic flow. There is nothing worse than maneuvering around a room where you risk tripping over people’s feet or knocking a table over.
