6 Tips for the Perfect Study Spot

In our last blog we discussed having a desk in a distraction free zone to enable your student or yourself to be able to study freely and effectively. Today I want to share six tips to help make that study spot the perfect study spot for anyone.

1. Choose a place where there is privacy and feels comfortable. Make sure the room has all of the essentials they’ll need to get work done like paper, pencils, books, art supplies and other study necessities. A drawer in the desk and or a bookshelf is an ideal place to keep these tools.

2. Make sure the location is quiet. When the windows are close, is the outside noises eliminated? Can they hear a TV from another room?

3. One of the most important features of a study area is good lighting. During daylight hours, natural light can stimulate learning but if the room is lacking natural sunlight or is dimly lit, make sure to add extra lighting.

4. Set a regular time for homework. It’s also a good idea check in occasionally to offer help and ensure students are staying on task.

5. Within the study space, provide a spacious and comfortable work surface, whether at a desk or table, where kids can set out their homework and other study materials. If space permits, a cozy armchair is a great addition to the room for reading time.

6. The study space should be free of video games, TV, computer games, and other online activities that can hinder the completion of work. One of the best ways to prevent overusing the computer is to keep it in a central area within the home.

  1. I like the size and openess of this desk. 5 side drawers for storage and a pencil drawer in the middle is a big plus too. A computer would fit easilly on one side which would leave the other side of the desk top for hand written assignments. It's a perfect size and is easy on the eyes too.

  2. I'm out of school but I would like a place to work on my computer, pay bills and work puzzles. This looks like a good buy for all of the above. Now, all I need is a chair and I'm in business.

  3. I've been looking for a desk for my dorm room. This one looks to have plenty of storage room without being excessively large. Dad's going to buy it for me for my birthday. I know it will last a good long time after I'm out of college.

  4. My Dad has been looking for a desk to put in his den. The one that's in there is a monster and it takes up too much room. This one looks to be roomy with several drawers for storage too. I missed Father's Day, even though I sent a card, I'm hoping this will help make up for it.

  5. We've been looking for a nice desk to keep in the corner of the living room but all of the ones we looked at were lacking in some way or another. We both like the looks of this one and the dimensions are perfect. We really need the storage space too.

  6. With school supplies on the shelves and registration in a couple of weeks, I have started talking to Brett about his study habits. He's in high school now and he really needs to buckle down. I'm glad you put this list out here. I'm going to print it off and put it over his desk where he can't help but see it whenever he sits down. Thanks for the support
