Importance of Quiet Work/Study Area

Regardless of how much your kids try to convince you that they cannot study unless the TV is on or the music is blaring, these things are not conducive to good study habits. The National Education Association (NEA) says children who spend more time at home completing regularly assigned, meaningful homework do better in school, especially as it becomes more critical each year to their scholastic success. Creating a secluded, quiet and well-lit place allows kids to switch into study mode faster and do homework without distraction.

You can create a quiet workspace for your child that they can use throughout their academic years with a solid wood Amish desk placed in a room that lacks unnecessary distractions and traffic flow. Make sure you provide adequate lighting and proper supplies so your child doesn’t try to come up with a million reasons under the sun to get up from their studies. Provide a timer and depending on the age of your child, set study periods with breaks. Healthy snacks are also a great way to keep your child’s brain energetic as well as their bottoms seated at their desk. Just these few simple things can increase your child’s over all grade point average.

  1. Nice looking desk. I like the open shelves on the sides. Plenty of room to store reference books. A desk lamp and you have a great study center. My son has been using the kitchen table which has a direct line to the TV. He's too easilly distracted for that to work.

  2. I would have given a lot to have had a desk like this in my room when I was in school. I had to do my homework at the kitchen table with supper being cook, dishes being done, the door constantly opening and closing with people coming and going. It's a wonder I made it through. My son has plenty of space in his room to put this. I'm sure it will be appreciated too.

  3. Wow, I like the contemporary look of this desk. I've been wanting one to put in the corner of the living room for bills and correspondence. This would look nice with the furniture in the room and the size works well too. All I need to do now is find a chair to match. On this site, I know that will not be a problem.

  4. This is exactly the type of desk I've been looking for. Lots of storage area and since there aren't any large drawers it's probably a lot lighter than the one I have at home.

  5. The kids really need a desk when they are doing their homework. I would have to buy 2, but I know they will last throughout their remaining years of school and beyond.
