Wood Types ~ Hard Maple

Hard Maple comes from maple trees belonging to the binomial name, Acer Saccharum. The genus Acer, species saccharum are native to Eastern North America and the official state tree of Wisconsin, Vermont, New York and West Virginia. Hard Maple Amish Furniture is blondish creamy white with a slight tannish color. It generally has a fine straight textured grain, but sometimes the grain can display a bird’s eye or burl grain resulting in small circular patterns. Hard Maple ranks very high on the Janka Hardness scale scoring 1450 lbf (pounds-force) making it extremely durable.

It is valued for its hard, dense, fine-grained and difficult-to-split wood, which is utilized for floors, Amish furniture, veneer, musical instruments, and railroad ties. Nearly all Amish furniture built with maple is not stained. Amish finishing shops spray clear conversion varnish on the maple to protect it.

  1. I haven't seen a serving cart for a number of years. I really like the combination of wood colors on this cart. There's even a drawer for extra storage. I want it!

  2. My wife would totally love this. She's always saying that it takes too long to move food to the dining room. She's got a birthday in August and I know she'll appreciate having it for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

  3. That's a classy little serving cart. Most of the ones I've seen around here I wouldn't put in my home. They're cheaply made and unsightly. My wife will be happy I found this as we entertain a lot.

  4. Interesting blog on the wood! I like how I keep learning things from you. Plus, looking at all of your beautiful furniture.

I'm ordering this for my son and his new wife. They love entertaining and this will add to the occasions.
