Resources to Help you Pick the Perfect Colors for your Room

Since I do a lot of references to colors used in a room to set a mood and best compliment your Amish Furniture I thought it would be helpful to provide you with some online resources. The ones I am sharing today are ones I feel give a wide variety of color combinations in their paints as well as tips in how to paint a room, and color schemes that work for various room settings as well as moods.

Pratt and Lambert Paints

Benjamin Moore Paints

Sherwin-Williams

Glidden Paints

Ralph Lauren Paint

Valspar Paint and Coatings

When shopping for paint, make sure you pay attention to the paints finish. There are 5 basic finishes that each give a specific look. Here is a break down of the five to give you a head start before you buy any paint.

Flat: A sheen-free saturated hides surface flaws but makes it hard to clean. Best used for ceilings or areas that does not get a lot of wear and tear. Should never be used in a room where smoking is allowed. It will absorb the odor more than other types of paint and is harder to eliminate.

Eggshell: This is washable. Has a slight bit more luster than the flat and can be touched up. Works better for smooth, blemish free walls.

Satin: This finish has a low luster pearly sheen that is a touch shiner than eggshell. Satin is a great choice for bathrooms and kitchens if your walls are in good shape, but a touch more difficult in touch ups. Is a great choice for bedroom walls, office, den, rec. rooms, and living rooms due to easy clean up.

Semi-gloss: Shiny, easily washable. Good for painted woodwork and moldings. Holds up to moisture well which makes it a good choice for basements, kitchens, and bathrooms. However, if you do not like a shine to your walls, stick with the Satin or Eggshell finishes.

High Gloss: Super shiny, super durable, and super easy to clean up. Mostly used on banisters, kitchen cabinets, and other woodwork that gets a lot of traffic. Not a good choice for walls.

  1. The breakfast nook I've had in my kitchen for the last 13 years never looked as good as yours. It's getting pretty worn our and I would love to replace it with this one. The storage area inside the bench is almost twice as deep as the one I have too. I can't wait to get it delivered.

  2. I love the breakfast nook and I think it would be a great addition to our cramped kitchen. The table and chairs we are using really just aren't a good fit. I checked the measurements and this would fit like a glove. It's on order and I'm just waiting for delivery.

  3. We've had a high table and 4 chairs sitting in the kitchen since we got married. That was purchased BC (before children). We need something more practical and I've always wanted a breaksfast nook. I really like the style and color of this one. Just have to run it by hubby.

  4. I've seen breakfast nooks before but they were all oak finish and I've wanted cherry finish. A friend of mine just called and told me about your site. I am so excited that I can finally get the set I've been searching for and the fact that it's Amish built makes it that much better.

  5. I really want this breakfast nook but there just isn't enough room in my kitchen for it. I don't think my hubby would be willing to enlarge it just so I could get this set. He can be so unreasonable about some things.
